A heavy fabricated steel structure is a large and complex piece of equipment that is made up of many individual parts. These parts are typically made of steel and are welded together to form a strong and durable structure. Heavy fabricated steel structures are used in a variety of industries, including papermaking.
In the papermaking industry, heavy fabricated steel structures are used to create digesters. Digesters are large vessels that are used to cook wood pulp into papermaking fibers. The digesters are made of heavy steel to withstand the high temperatures and pressures that are used in the papermaking process.
In this article, we will discuss a project case involving the fabrication of heavy steel structures for papermaking digesters for a Brazilian company.

The project involved the fabrication of over 500 tons of prefabricated steel structures made from duplex stainless steel. The structures were custom-made to meet the specific requirements of the Brazilian company. The fabrication process involved several steps, including cutting, edge milling, plate rolling, press forming, welding, and inspection.
The first step in the fabrication process was cutting the steel plates into the desired sizes. The plates were then subjected to edge milling to ensure precise dimensions. The plates were then rolled to achieve the required curvature for the digester's cylindrical shape. The rolled plates were then press-formed into the required shapes and welded together to form the digester's shell.
After the welding process, the structures underwent rigorous inspection to ensure that they meet the required quality standards. The inspection process involved non-destructive testing techniques such as X-ray, ultrasonic, and magnetic particle testing. The inspection process was critical in ensuring that the structures were free from defects that could compromise their reliability and durability.
The completed heavy fabricated steel structures were then shipped to Brazil and installed on the digester. The use of high-quality materials and expert fabrication techniques ensures that the digester performs optimally, increasing the efficiency of the papermaking process.
